About the Image

I consider the image timeless. I took it at a Wisconsin Menominee powwow in 1995. A variation made a cover of Wisconsin Trails magazine.

Here are some of my Magazine Covers.

I used Fuji Velvia film and a polarizer to get a slow shutter speed. Unlike today’s instant digital gratification, I did not know what I had until I processed it.

I have a high-grade scanner and have enough pixels to create a 45×30 image on aluminum for the art show.

My Two Other Entries

I have an entire series of birefringence that you can see in my Rainbows on Ice folder.

Smiling Frog

A vibrant green frog perched on a colorful flower, showcasing its bright colors against the yellow and red petals.

We were allowed three entries. If I had a fourth this one would have been it.

Autumn Jewels

A scenic autumn landscape featuring a dry riverbed surrounded by colorful foliage and fallen leaves in shades of red, orange, and yellow.

All of the images except “The Dance” are focused stacked.

The “Smiling Frog” is about the size of a half-dollar coin. It hopped up on my shirt while working in my garden in Illinois. I put the frog on a hanging basket outside, rushed to get my macro lens and was surprised the frog was still there when I returned.

I am inches away from the frog. I took about 15 different images manually focused, then the frog hopped off.

Ice Kaleidoscope is also a focus stack of about 10 images. Even at F16 very little is in focus.

Autumn Jewels is three or four stacked images. Click to purchase.
