The Jumbo Rocks area of Joshua Tree National Park offers a wide variety of photo opportunities.
Penguin Rock

That’s a late afternoon shot at the start of the golden hour. The clouds were perfect but by sunset, dissipated.
Jumbo Rocks Belt of Venus

About a half hour after sunset, or before sunrise, you can see pink bands in the sky 180 degrees opposite the sun.
This phenomenon is called the “Belt of Venus” It’s caused by sunlight scattering off atmospheric particles, creating a rosy glow that contrasts with the deep blue of our planet’s shadow.
Marble Wall

I like the blend of light and shadows on these huge boulders, typical of the Jumbo Rocks area.
Crows were flying over the rocks. Here is the same scene with a pair of crows.

The previous two images were taken about a half-hour before sunset.
The glow was more intense in the last few minutes before sunset,.

In the above image, I waited for the sunlight to fade from the foreground. The light then only hit the high walls in the background.

I’m really happy Mish moved to southern Utah. I love that area and Mish’s close-to-home photography within the region is spectacular.
Thanks
Much Appreciated
Mish, as always your compositions are intriguing and pleasing. I think some of these Joshua Tree images would look cool in black and white!
Thanks Sue
