Starved Rock State Park is in Utica, Illinois. The park is about 2 hours away from Chicago.
My favorite times to visit, in order, are Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Summer is too crowded and the waterfall flows are typically minimum.

Lasalle is my favorite waterfall in the park. It’s a great Winter escape and the crowds are low.
Sunlight and a blue sky filtering though the ice creates these nice blue-green colors. Unlike the rest of the year when you are begging for clouds, in the winter you want full sun.

The above image is nearly the same perspective as the frozen waterfall. You can easily see how it freezes.
