Explore Abandoned Cars at the Wall Street Mill in Joshua Tree NP

Take an easy hike to a gold mine and interesting rusted cars.

The Wall Street Mill was an operable gold ore crushing mill featuring late-19th century two-stamp mill machinery.

The mill is interesting but if you are a fan of old cars, you will enjoy the hike even more.

It’s an easy 2 mile loop to a mine that passes a rusted card, an old windmill and the mine. Take the left fork of the trail to see the rusted car below, or the right fork to see a windmill.

An old, rusty truck sits in a desert landscape, partially covered in sand and surrounded by sparse vegetation and rocky formations.

The Mill

An abandoned and weathered metal building tilted to one side in a desert setting, surrounded by rocks and vegetation.

Near the mill there are two old rusted cars. The lead image is one of them. Here is a different angle of the lead image.

An old, rusty vintage car abandoned in a desert landscape, featuring a partially exposed engine and weathered body. The surrounding area has sparse vegetation and rocky formations under a cloudy sky.

The next wreck is bit harder to find. It’s hidden in some brush on the trail to the mill.

An abandoned green vintage truck partially covered by surrounding foliage, with its door ajar and interior details visible.

Here’s a frontal view of the truck.

I did this hike twice.

The first day was near full sun, and the second day was nearly overcast. The mill, and especially the cars, photograph better on a cloudy day.

The windmill photographs better on a sunny day. Hope for a cloudy day if hiking the trail just once.

An old, rusted drilling apparatus sits on a wooden base inside a structure, surrounded by arid desert landscape and Joshua trees.

  1. You make these old remnants of past mining life look beautiful. Lost Horse Mine loop has an old chimney from a homestead and mattress springs, etc. still present in Joshua Tree. The mine is more substantial than this one, but these beautiful cars are absent.
