Zion National Park – Narrows – Glowing Tree and Rapids

Five Narrows Photography Tips
- Direct sunlight is a killer. Look for images with reflected light.
- Get on the first bus. The reflected light is best around noon in the fall. It takes time to get to the best spots.
- Be patient. To get images without people, you have to take many pictures and blend parts of each.
- To get smooth water, it takes a long exposure. That means a sturdy tripod. Rushing water will move a light tripod.
- Some images look better with a polarizer others without. Polarizers remove reflections which has plusses and minuses. The second an fourth images in this post are polarized and the other two with more glow on the water are not polarized or lightly polarized.
If the primary goal is to have fun, then throw tips 3-5 out the window. Not many people want to carry a tripod.
Have fun, but get on an early bus for the best light. You can get good images with your phone with tips 1-2.
