Stunning Pine Creek Winter Photography in Zion National Park

This is a fifth set of images from Pine Creek in Zion. I have one more set of images coming up from Pine Creek. And I saved some of the best for last.

Zion National Park, Pine Creek Reflection

I took the above image on December 10, 2024.

All of the images in this set, except as noted, were taken between December 10 2024, and January 12, 2025.

December 10 is very late for Autumn images, but there you go. There is no direct light on the ice. The glow is reflected light just before sunset on the surrounding cliffs.

I keep going back to the same spots because the light is always changing.

The next shot is from Christmas Eve.

Cattails and Ice Reflections

The lead shot was easy. This one wasn’t. It involved focus stacking in multiple planes.

Focus stacking means taking multiple images focusing on near, mid, and far distances. The first shot was focus-stacked as well, but nothing was sticking up in the middle of the frame.

Ice Flow

That image is also from Christmas eve. I met the wonderful Jay and Martha Beck family on this hike. They were headed to the next waterfall.

It is a hard scramble that I have done it many times by myself. But I would not do it alone in the Winter with all this ice. If you fall, you may be in trouble.

Frozen Waterfall Pine Creek

Frozen Waterfall, Pine Creek in Zion National Park.

I include this image because of the rock slide. The slide happened between November 27 and December 24. I am not sure if the park service is even aware because Pine Creek is outside the main drive.

The slide will forever end getting a shot like the next one.

Pine Creek Waterfall and Swirls in Zion National Park.

That shot is from November 27. Huge boulders now fill up the entire lower half of the frame.

I may be the last person to have an image like the one above.

Pine Creek Sunset

Glowing cliffs along Pine Creek in Zion National Park.

Right before sunset, you can get shots like that at the right time of the year along Pine Creek.

First Snow

We had no snow to speak of this this winter. The above shot is from January 2024.

This is my 5th consecutive post from Pine Creek. One more is coming up.

I often hear people say, “I’ve already done that hike.”

Well, have you?

  1. Great images, MIsh! What’s even greater is that I was there with you! I haven’t worked on my images yet but I don’t think I got such nice ones. We’re so lucky to be able to have this practically in our backyard!

  2. Great shots! You have a terrific eye and use your equipment well!I
I am receiving these posts and thus don’t want duplicates by asking you to email me new posts.

  3. The rock slide is sad but thankful you weren’t there when it happened. Your photography is amazing.
