Great Basin National Park offers some nice high-altitude hikes. My last two posts were hikes at 10,000+ feet. The Snake Creek Overlook Trail tops out at about 8,500 feet.

The images on this page were from June 1 along Snake Creek, not far from the trailhead.
The trail is a an easy 1.1 mile hike to a nice but not particularly photogenic overlook. Alltrails says the hike is a bit longer. The trail crosses multiple bridges.
In early June, the Alpine Lake trail was knee-deep in snow in many places. My wife Liz and I trudged to the lake but it was cloudy and windy. There was no shot.
It was the melting snow that provided much water in Snake Creek.
Feature Image Details
- EOS R5 Mirrorless Camera
- Canon 24-105MM F4 L Lens at 50 MM
- F16 ISO 200 for 0.3 seconds
To get an exposure that long I used a polarizer and most likely a neutral density filter on top of that. I also focus stacked the image (focusing on the foreground branch and somewhere in the back, blending the two images) to keep the foreground and background both sharp.

Great images – you can almost hear the water! I like the light on the water to the left of the branch in the last image.
