Discussion

This is a panorama image that I took right from the parking lot. It’s about 30 minutes from where I live. All you had to do was be there.

I watch cloud formations and when they are promising I try to be somewhere that makes sense. It really helps to know your local area well.

Only one other photographer was there. He was at least serious enough to have a tripod. But he was not serious enough to be paying attention. He was chatting with me as I took this image and he missed the best light.

For panoramic images, I shoot in vertical mode. Make sure you overlap each image by 50 percent to make stitching easier.

It’s best to use a tripod. And it helps to have a leveling base or panning clamp setup on the tripod.

In this case, the light was strong enough that one could have gotten this sequence hand-held at a higher ISO.
