Over a dozen hummingbirds were active in my garden in mid-September. Here are some images.
These images are from our backyard.
We have two hummingbird poles with two feeders on each.
The birds are territorial and chase each other away from the feeders. They kept flying back and forth between the feeders, chasing each other.
To freeze the motion on the wings, I used a very high shutter speed of 1/8,000th of a second.
You can see the territorial behavior in the above image. One of the birds seems to be screaming “This feeder is mine”.
I watched the birds for an hour taking many hundreds of images to review. I was astonished by the lead image with 5 birds in a row all in the same plane of focus.

Absolutely beautiful! The composition of the first one is great. Even though the hummingbirds are “frozen” in the images, you can feel so much motion and action. I like the hummingbird second one down from the top in the first image – how the sunlight shines on his belly and the shape of his wings. The color and design of the feeder sort of mimics that of the hummingbirds.
