The Da Vinci panel is in Virgin River Gorge in the Arizona strip, between St. George UT, and Nevada.

The Vitruvian Man is da Vinci’s study of the human form through proportionate geometry and mathematics.

Ghikes has Directions to the Da Vinci Panel

The Da Vinci Panel is located off of Interstate 15 in the Virgin River Canyon between St. George, Utah and Littlefield, Arizona. The trail begins from a pullout along side of the interstate as it starts into the Virgin River Gorge. After leaving the roadside the trail crosses into the Beaver Dam Mountains Wilderness Area where it climbs over a nearby ridge to several rock art panels overlooking the Virgin River. The panel for which the trail gets its name has an image that is reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing the Vitruvian Man. ….

Parking is only headed South on I-15. It is easy to pull off. If traffic is heavy, you will struggle to get back on the highway. I advised doing this Monday-Thursday non-rush-hour, or anytime traffic is lighter.

Other than the parking instructions that are accurate, the rest leaves a lot to be desired. I hiked this trail with my wife Liz and hiking friends Sue and Fred. We ended up climbing too high and had to scramble back down.

On our return to the car we stayed close to Interstate 15. That route is not straightforward either, but was less up and down.

Sue, Fred, Liz and I debated how that slab got there. Since it does not appear to match anything on top of that ridge, I suggest that it was carried to this spot, then broke.

Newspaper Rock

We arrived at “Newspaper Rock” first. Don’t confuse this “Newspaper Rock” petroglyph with at least five other sites with the same name.

A marking shows someone discovered the panel in 1876.
