Stunning Autumn Reflections in Zion National Park

Autumn came late to Southern Utah but it was great. This is another et of images from Pine Creek in Zion.

There are numerous waterfalls and cascades along Pine Creek. Some spots require rappelling or scrambling. The above image is walking upstream from a large parking area right before you head up to to the Mt. Carmel tunnel.

It is quite a scramble to get to this location. You hit an apparent dead end and need to find a way up. Looking upstream I find it easier to scramble up the left bank.

This set of images is taken from the same spot as my previous waterfall image. I am looking 180 degrees opposite.

The lead image is an extreme crop of the following image.

Normally I take long exposures to capture swirls. In the above images I uses short shutter speeds and higher ISOs to stop motion and capture reflection details.

The next image shows a 30 second exposure and tighter framing, not cropped.

  1. My favorite is the first image because it’s abstract and you’ve got the focused leaves contrasted with the shimmering reflection and the composition is nice: the dark tree branches bring your eye down to the beautiful yellow leaves. The way the leaves are grouped randomly is pleasing.
